  • About

Northampton Vision Specialists has been providing comprehensive vision care to patients of all ages for more than 20 years. The practice is led by Dr. Theresa Ruggiero, a leading authority on neuro-developmental optometry, along with associate neuro-developmental optometrists Dr. Elizabeth Hannigan and Dr. Naomi Clay.

As neuro-developmental optometrists, a comprehensive evaluation at Northampton Vision Specialists includes more than a thorough eye health evaluation and eyesight assessment; it includes a series of visual system tests to measure depth perception, visual focus, eye teaming, peripheral vision, visual tracking (eye movements) and spatial awareness. During the evaluation, patients are encouraged to ask questions and discuss bothersome symptoms that may be caused by visual deficiencies. These may include blurred vision, dizziness, headaches, poor reading comprehension or a short attention span. In children, especially, many of these symptoms can mimic other disorders, such as hyperactivity, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning and behavioral problems. The same symptoms are often seen with patients that have had a concussion or other brain/head injury.

At Northampton Vision Specialists, the goal of our practice is to maximize vision through deliberate, patient-centered care. In doing so, we strive to help every patient achieve their highest potential - from the child struggling to read to the patient recovering from a stroke or concussion. We also help athletes develop the visual skills needed to achieve their performance goals.
