Event Description:
Gregory Stone was a well-known Northampton Renaissance artist pioneer who came to town in the 1970’s. He established a celebrated career both locally and nationally. Stone is remembered by his friends and associates as an unusually charitable person, often expressing his humanitarian impulses through direct action. He helped the homeless, he helped the war victims of Nicaragua through the Polus Center for Social and Economic Development, he found beauty in the resilience of the common person. Many agree that by Stone’s empathetic treatment of subjects—laborers, disabled, or victims of war—he was an artist who sought a vision of a better world. Over forty of his works spanning his career including paintings, drawings, table sculptures, and maquettes from several bronzes & public sculptures are shown in three galleries. Some works will be for sale.
