Get ready for more thrills and chills at the seventh annual Northampton Ice Art Festival that begins on Friday, February 10. The public is invited to witness the creation of fabulous ice sculptures throughout downtown starting early in the day. Completed works will highlight Northampton's "Arts Night Out," 5-8pm and remain on display throughout the weekend. If the weather cooperates, everyone will still be enjoying these artfully crafted masterpieces on Valentine’s Day!
Featured ice artists come from diverse backgrounds with different levels of expertise. Professional ice carver Joe Almeida has participated in all of the festivals, and this year is no exception as he contributes several themed works at Pulaski Park, Inspirit Crystals, and the Eastside Grill. Don Chapelle, founder of Boston’s “Brilliant Ice Sculpture,” also returns to create a unique, interactive piece at Thornes Marketplace.
Artist Rob Kimmel and ice master Billy Poe make second appearances this year. The ever-popular, creative Chris Nelson is back. Three debuts include Northampton painter David Barclay, Brendon Kellner of Boston, whose father Tom is a past participant, and sculptor Adam John Mulcahy of Holyoke.
As an enhancement to the festivities, The Deck at Union Station is creating an outdoor ice luge. And there's more happening! Join "Science on the Street" At First Churches, 1-5 pm, for some winter fun. Can you pick up a floating ice cube with just a string and without touching the water? No, it doesn't take magic -- it just takes science! Give it a try...

This event is the latest in the Family Concert Series at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art on 125 West Bay Road in Amherst, MA on Saturday, February 25th at 11:00 AM. Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam is a band that was founded in early 2013 by parents Jason and Amy, from the inspiration brought to them by their 4 year-old daughter. By co-writing their own lyrics, Jason and Amy play a range of music from full-on rock for all ages to acoustic sets for younger audiences. In early 2014, their debut album “Everyone’s Invited”, won the Parents’ Choice Seal of Approval and became a CD Baby Editor’s Pick as it peaked at #2 on the online record store’s Children’s Music chart. Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam have been praised for their interactivity, high energy level, and educational value.
